This is a Chapter of the Story Journey Through Köln. Go back to the previous ChapterCuriosity pushed the protagonist to venture along a narrow alley hinted at in an old traveler's tale. Between two historic buildings, a small arched doorway led to an underground passage that ran beneath the bustling streets of Cologne. The walls were lined with ancient bricks, damp with the whisper of the Rhine above, and the faint glow of phosphorescent moss illuminated the path ahead.
As the hero pressed deeper, faint footsteps echoed somewhere ahead, accompanied by the soft murmur of voices. Rounding a corner, they glimpsed a group of cloaked figures huddled around a lantern, poring over faded parchments. One parchment showed a network of tunnels converging beneath the city center—routes forgotten by time and absent from any modern map.
Before the group noticed, the protagonist withdrew into the shadows, heart racing. The discovery raised more questions than answers: Who were these strangers, and what secrets did they guard? Determined to find out, our traveler resolved to return with a plan, knowing that this hidden passage might be the key to unraveling Cologne’s hidden history.
